What– The purpose of New Vision Christian Fellowship’s Celebrate Recovery ministry is to fellowship and celebrate God´s healing power in our lives through the “8 Recovery Principles.” This experience allows us to “be changed.” We open the door by sharing our experiences, strengths and hopes with one another. In addition, we become willing to accept God´s grace in solving our lives´ problems. By working and applying these Biblical principles, we begin to grow spiritually. We become free from our addictive, compulsive and dysfunctional behaviors. This freedom creates peace, serenity, joy and most importantly, a stronger personal relationship with God and others. As we progress through the program we discover our personal, loving and forgiving Higher Power – Jesus Christ, the one and only true Higher Power.

Iris Secord
Co-Leader · Celebrate Recovery

I am a recovering addict/alcoholic, originally gaining sobriety through secular 12-step programs beginning in March of 1998. In the year 2009, under the tutelage of Pastor David Powell, my husband Michael and I were blessed to be asked to be a part of starting a Celebrate Recovery Program at our church. It was through this program that my spiritual connection with the Lord grew stronger and I was better able to see and understand how God works in my life. God has truly blessed me abundantly and I have a wonderful life and enjoy a wonderful church and church family. I love the Celebrate Recovery Ministry and enjoy seeing newcomers come and get the relief they need from their hurts, habits and hang-ups.

Michael Secord
Co-Leader · Celebrate Recovery

Michael Secord is a believer in the Lord who saved him from dangerous drug and sexual addiction. Michael has been with this church for over 9 years and with the ministry of Celebrate Recovery for 7 years and he enjoys serving alongside his wife Iris and his bff David Powell. Michael loves this ministry of Celebrate Recovery because he knows people are broken; need fellowship, accountability and most importantly God, Father, Son and Spirit. This Recovery ministry is much different than secular ministry because unlike the secular our higher power is Yashua Jesus. This ministry of Celebrate was written by an alcoholic Pastor John Baker and aided by Pastor Rick Warren. These Pastors from God made the needs happen to start this ministry for the local church so they wouldn’t have to seek Recovery Program that was not God centered this ministry he believes truly works and glorified God in the process.

David Powell
Co-Leader · Celebrate Recovery

David came to know Jesus Christ as his personal savior at a very young age and has made this his church home since 1966. In 1970 he began a lengthy inward struggle of “double standard living” while “playing church” and after a time of addictions he answered God’s call to service in the Lord’s army.

In 1982, he married Brenda his wife of now over 34 years here at what was then known as First Southern Baptist Church of San Diego. In 1984, they began raising a family and now have three adult children; Adam, Rebekah, Laura and two grandchildren; Addison and Emmeline.

After 22 and 1/2 years in the automobile business David came on staff in 1997 and is currently serving as the executive pastor of operations. His ministry focus is with campus security, celebrate recovery, food services, transportation and facilities.

His deepest passion is to serve Jesus Christ in ministry set before him for the time needed.
